About Ruah







RUAH BHAY, 500ERYT, M.A.

Ruah has been teaching for over a decade.  She is a native New Yorker who has lived over a breadth of several years in France, Senegal, Sri Lanka and finally came full-circle returning to NYC.

Ruah’s classes are always physically challenging with offerings of modifications, adjustments and intelligent sequencing that makes the class enjoyable and accessible for all levels.  She is known for integrating teachings of yoga philosophy in a way that is useful and applicable to everyday life.  

Ruah was introduced to yoga and meditation at a young age by her mom who took classes at Integral Yoga and went on retreats with Swami Satchidananda. Ruah is also a daily TM  practitioner, under the guidance of her aunt and uncle, who are devotees of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.  Eventually, she discovered that a daily morning yoga practice made a world of a difference as she has continued her devotion to yoga ever since.  

Ruah has studied with various traditions from Yogaworks, Ashtanga, Iyengar, Kundalini, Dharma Mittra and Swami Vivekananda SVYASA University.  Yoga and meditation have been an essential positive source in her life as a student, teacher, professional, traveller, wife and mother and does her best to help students create the same sacred space for themselves.  

Ruah has been in many health and fitness features, collaborated with celebrities such as Russell Simmons and has also appeared in Marie Claire, Time Out, In Resident, More, Uptown, FOX, WPIX, NY Post & NY1. Ruah is a teacher, writer, non-profit fundraiser, rollerblader, runner, singer, lifetime athlete and meditation practitioner and mom of two. Ruah is 500hr Yogaworks Certified, Khalsa Way Prenatal Certified, has been teaching for over a decade, holds a B.A. in Political Science and an M.A. in Sustainable Development.

Ruah Yoga & Meditation Staycation to Far Rockaway Beach Summer 2017


SUMMER 2017 9AM-4PM
SATURDAYS JULY 1st. AUGUST 12th 

Rest, relax and restore your energy on an easy and fast journey to the beauty of Rockaway Beach!  

PROGRAM:
9-11:30AM Yoga, Breathing, Relaxation & Meditation with Ruah guiding you to strengthen, open and relax your entire body, mind and spirit.  The practice will be challenging, yet accessible to all, working through all of the muscles of the body preparing for guided relaxation and meditation all set to the relaxing sound of the crashing waves'

  • 12-1pm LUNCH BREAK.  Enjoy delcious Argentinian cuisine on the boardwalk at Caracas Arepa Bar and take in the beautiful view while sipping lemon water or a margaita!  You can check out the restaraunt here: Caracas http://www.caracasarepabar.com/rockaway.php.
  • 1-3:30pm Chill out on the beach for the rest of the day with Ruah who will be available to answer questions about YOGA, NUTRITION, MEDITATION, GOAL SETTING &/OR LIFE.  Ruah will be there to help you fine-tune a pose you are working on or assist you with that inversion you learning to get up into - or how to fall down in!    
  • Learn to Surf  with the fantastic Locals Surf School http://localssurfschool.com/.  These are the same great teachers that taught me my first surf lesson! You will feel safe, prepared and ready to the most out of your surfing experience.  If you are interested, reach out to them directly by visiting their website or finding them on Facebook and confirm availability.

LOCATION:

Beach 105th & 108th on the beach in front of Caracas Areba Bar, Queens, NY
  Rockaway Beach is accessible by car, train, bus or bike. The beach is about an hour from downtown Brooklyn on the A train ride away from downtown Manhattan and . Check out google maps or Hop Stop to see for yourself. If you are a biker, it's an accesible 10 mile ride from- a great way to start the day! 

We'll meet on the beach in front of Caracas Areba Bar.


WHAT TO BRING:

Some things on this list are personal preference, but just so you don't forget anything...

v  Yoga Gear – bring whatever you feel like doing yoga in and maybe a bandana or hat to cover your head from the sun.


v  Towel, sheet or Yoga Mat to practice on.


v  Beach umbrella.


v  Beach chair.

v  Healthy snacks like fruit, nuts and protein bars.


v  PLENTY of sunscreen.


v  Favorite beach hat.


v  Sunglasses


v  Cash for Caracas Arepa Bar & Restaurant

v Packed lunch if not eating at Arepas


TRANSPORTATION:

Directions by MTA TRAIN:
1) Take DOWNTOWN Bkyln/Qns A-Train towards FAR ROCKAWAY (there are other A train destinations, so make sure you get on the FAR ROCKAWAY one) to BROAD CHANNEL.
2) Get off at BROAD CHANNEL to Transfer to the S to 106th St
3) Get off at Beach 106th St. and walk to Beach 105th street and turn right towards the beach.
4) Once at the beach, turn right again until you arrive at Caracas Arepa Bar.
5) Look for me and the other yogis on the beach.
* Make sure you get on the FAR ROCKAWAY A train NOT the Lefferts Blvd or Rocaway Park)**
**Check the banner on the side of the train before getting on to ensure you are on the right A train**

Directions by LIRR
1) LIRR towards Far Rockaway, and get off the train at Far Rockaway-Mott Avenue.
2) TRANSFER to the Manhattan Bound A-train. Then you will arrive at your destination, which is the beach 67th St stop (5 stops).
