Ruah Bhay, ERYT500, M.A. & Prenatal Certified

As so many of us do, I followed a winding path to end up in the place where I am today in my role as a teacher of yoga and meditation, a mentor and healer.  I often remind myself, my students and even my own children, eventually when we look back at our journeys they make perfect sense - hind sight is indeed 20/20.

Over the decades, I have studied with various traditions from Yogaworks, Ashtanga, Iyengar, Kundalini, Dharma Mittra and Swami Vivekananda at SVYASA University.  Yoga and meditation have been an essential and positive source in my life as a student, teacher, professional, traveler, wife and mother and I do my best to help students create the same sacred space.

While I have years of living abroad in France, Senegal and Sri Lanka, I found my true love of living in Brooklyn with my husband and two children.  I was raised in Greenwich Village of New York City where I was introduced to yoga, meditation and self-hypnosis at a young age by my mom who took classes at Integral Yoga and went on retreats with Swami Satchidananda before I was born.  Spirituality was also an important resource for me and I went to Hebrew School, Sunday School and studied Buddhism, Hinduism and Islam at various times throughout my education even into my college years.  Later in life, I was initiated in Transcendental Meditation and have continued a daily practice, under the guidance of my aunt and uncle, who are devotees of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.  Eventually, I discovered that a daily morning yoga practice made a world of a difference and I have been fortunate to continue with this practice since then.

As a mom of two and woman who just recently entered her 40th decade, I have come to really value finding the balance between receiving inspiration from the philosophical elements of yoga, the mental clarity and physical rejuvenation of meditation and maintaining strength in the physical practice.

My classes are always guided by a theme that applies yoga philosophy in an applicable way to every day life.  The practice I offer is always physically challenging, yet in a way that is accessible to all levels with modifications and variations.

As we advance on our path as yogis we are better able to respond to the needs of our body/mind/spirit in the moment that we are in - at times that means exploring the edge and even the unknown of our practice, at other times that means taking it easy and resting as needed.

When you practice with me
, you will have the chance to build strength, stamina and have a good sweat and be guided to listen to your body, learning to be your own barometers of discovering balance between the sthirum (strength) and sukham (ease) of your practice.
